Moving now into the right transept, we find a statue of Saint Clare of Montefalco (1755) by Silini. She is shown holding a lily, the emblem of absolute purity, and with her heart on fire and pierced by a crucifix. The burning heart is typical of Augustinian iconography, as it refers to an episode in Saint Augustine’s inner life: “the word of God inflamed his heart with divine love.”
